Football: Maicon excited by Manchester City Move
Manchester City new boy, Maicon, has told the news sport that he is excited about helping the club continue their recent success, and has hailed the strength of their playing squad.
The Brazilian was one of five new signings brought in by boss Roberto Mancini on the final day of the transfer window, as the Italian finally decided to splash the cash after a relatively quiet summer.
The 31-year-old previously worked alongside Mancini when the pair were together at Inter Milan, winning two Serie A titles at the San Siro, before the coach was replaced by Jose Mourinho, who went onto lead the club to even greater success.
Inter are currently undergoing something of a makeover, and Maicon is just the latest in a string of world class players to leave the Nerazzurri since they won the Champions League in 2010.
Despite City already having both Micah Richards and Pablo Zabaleta in their squad, Mancini has often spoke of his admiration for Maicon during his time at the Etihad stadium, and the veteran looks like the ideal fit for the boss’ now preferred 3-5-2 formation.
The former Monaco man is looking forward to establishing himself in the team as soon as possible and says he can’t wait to start working with such a talented group of players. "I want to make great history at Manchester City, as I have done over here at Inter Milan," he told City TV.
"I want to make history over there and that is why I have made this decision, and I am sure everything will be all right, because I am going to work alongside great players. It will be a pleasure working alongside them and to help them win many titles."
